February Challenge 2023

I decided to do a February Challenge this year.

I heard Mel Robbins talking about 75Hard on her podcast and considered this for a day.  Then in researching, I found 75 Medium and 75 Soft, and others.  But really, why follow someone else's challenge when none of them fit me personally?  So here we are:

MY FEBRUARY CHALLENGE:

- writing: create a new blog and post weekly (about teaching, fitness/health, or the on-going process of updating and personalizing the new house I bought in October)

- fitness: 3 strength training sessions per week (can be on my Peloton app or Juice & Toya on Youtube, but must do 3)

- water:  112 oz daily (Two 24oz glasses at home and 2 32oz water bottles during the day)

meditation:  10 minutes daily

- school:  incorporate 3 "movement snacks" each class period (90 minutes long)

- nutrition:  less at dinner so I sleep better (one helping; no dessert except my child's birthday)

- book:  finish Tony Robbins' Money:  Master the Game

I wanted small steps in a variety of areas of my life that can be continued.  I don't want to do a challenge where I'm so exhausted or stressed at the end that I quit. That seems silly.

Here's my why:

writing: I have been journaling daily since we were locked down in the pandemic, but I stopped blogging. I want to start again -- it holds me to a higher standard of content and style.  I need that.

fitness: I'll do cardio all day long, but whine about strength training.  It's so ridiculous because I always feel awesome sleep so well with strength training. So... let's get consistent!

water -  Again with the sleeping well and feeing awesome.  I just need to create a better habit.

-  meditation:  I randomly started meditating in the morning, and then got more consistent with just 5 minutes.  I want to up my game because it really does help me stay calm and have a more optimistic outlook. Win all around.

school:  Our classes are 90 minute blocks and sitting all day is good for NO ONE!  So, let's get up at least twice per block.  Sometimes this will be things like sharing with partners or writing on chart paper, and other times, we'll doing 30 second yoga poses or a 1 minute push-up challenge.  More to come on how this goes! 😃

nutrition:  I've noticed that when I eat late or too much, I do not sleep well.  I want to see the effects of smaller dinners and less sugar on my sleep. I'm guessing there might be other benefits as well.

book:  I've noticed with my nonfiction reading (usually audiobooks, but not always) that I am an awesome starter and not such an awesome finisher.  My commitment -- finish at least one nonfiction book per month.  (Start as many as I want!)

So, that's it!  I'd love to hear from you if you do any kind of challenges, or just want to help hold me accountable!  I'm open and quite determined!
